Salvation
There are many people who think that baptism is not necessary for salvation.  This thinking is not scriptural.
  • First of all the word "baptism" is taken from a Greek word that means to immerse or dunk.
  • This means that people who are "sprinkled" with water are not baptized according to the bible.
  • Another thing that people do is baptize babies which is not scriptural.
  • Baptism is an act of faith with understanding.
  • Babies are not allowed to vote in presidential elections because they cannot make a proper choice.
  • The same principal applies to faith and baptism.

Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.  KJV
  • We see here in the book of Mark that there must be belief first, then baptism.
  • Babies cannot have belief, they must grow and mature to obtain understanding first.

We also cannot find anywhere in scripture of anyone who was baptized in the titles of "Father, Son and Holy Ghost."
  • Every example in the New Testament when people were baptized, were baptized in the name of JESUS.
  • The Jews in Acts 2
  • The Samaritans in Acts 8
  • The Gentiles in Acts 10
  • In Acts 19, the disciples of John the Baptist were re-baptized in Jesus name to be baptized correctly.

Why Baptize in Jesus Name?

Luke 24:46-47
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  KJV

Remission of sins was preached in Jesus name and fulfilled in Jesus name baptism.

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  KJV

It is the "Name of Jesus" with water baptism that remits sin after you believe.

It's part of the Gospel

  • The Gospel is the "Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ."
  • Baptism is "spiritual burial."

Romans 6:3-5
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:  KJV

1 Peter 3:20-21
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:  KJV

There is no salvation according to New Testament scripture without repentance.

What is "Repentance?"

  • Repentance is more than asking for forgiveness.
  • Repentance is a life changing experience.
  • Repentance is making a commitment to give up your sinful, worldly life and live for Jesus.
  • This commitment is more important than your commitment to your family, friends and in fact your own life.

Mark 12:29-30
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.  KJV
  • All means all!
  • This means that you cannot make anything else the center of your world except God.
  • Everything in your life should revolve around God and the Kingdom of God.
  • When you put yourself, or your family, or your job, or your money before God what you are doing is making God revolve around those things and not around Him.

Luke 13:3
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.  KJV

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  KJV

Acts 3:19
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;  KJV

Acts 17:30-31
30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.  KJV

It's Part of the Gospel
  • The Gospel is the "Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ."
  • Repentance is a "spiritual death."
  • When we repent, we die to our old sinful lifestyle.

John 12:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.  KJV

Matthew 4:17
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. KJV

No matter what you have believed or been taught before, you must;
  • Be born again to see or enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
  • Repented, Baptized in Jesus Name, and Filled with the Holy Ghost.
  • This is God's way and the only way to make Heaven your home.
  • The Bible says that if you try any other way, you are a thief and a robber.

John 10:1
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
KJV

  • There are many different churches with many different beliefs.
  • Some of these churches are large and full of people.
  • However, only the full truth will set you free.
  • Many churches offer diverse social programs.
  • We offer Heaven through truth.

Matthew 7:13-14
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  KJV

Believe It!

Revelation 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.  KJV

Repentance
Baptism is Part of Salvation
Holy Ghost Infilling
Being filled with the very Spirit of God is also a part of Salvation.
  • The Holy Spirit and Holy Ghost are the very same Spirit of God.
  • The Bible says that God is Spirit.

John 3:5
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  KJV
  • Being born of water is Jesus name baptism.
  • Being born of the Spirit is the infilling of the Holy Ghost.

Romans 8:11
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.  KJV
  • If we want to be raised up in the "Rapture", which is the catching away of the Church, we need to be filled with God's Spirit.

How do we know if we are filled with the Holy Ghost?

Acts 2:2-4
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.  KJV
  • Speaking with "tongues" is the initial sign that you have received the Holy Ghost.

Mark 16:17
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;  KJV

Acts 10:44-46
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.  KJV

Acts 19:5-6
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.  KJV

Tongues is not the Holy Ghost, but it is a sign that you have received the Holy Ghost.
  • Being filled with the Holy Ghost is still as true today as back in the Book of Acts.
  • The term "Pentecostal" is experiencing the infilling of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in an unknown tongue.
  • It takes more than just "Believing" to make heaven your home.
  • When you believe, you obey the Gospel.

It's Part of the Gospel

  • Peter is the disciple to whom Jesus gave the keys to the Kingdom.

Acts 2:38-39
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.  KJV
  • This is the basics of SALVATION
